Crest Healthy Smiles
One of our biggest community services opportunities throughout the year is Crest/Oral-B Healthy Smiles. During the school year the UNLV ASDA chapter provides multiple opportunities for students to go to different Boys and Girls Club of America to teach the children about brushing, flossing, nutrition, teeth and dental care. The students help children ranging in ages from 5-12 years old. For instance children learn the best times to brush each day, how often they should go to the dentist and many more things. Many children for the first time learn what floss is and what the purpose of floss is. Each child receives a dental goodie bag with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a calendar to keep track of their brushing. The toothbrushes and toothpastes are provided by Procter & Gamble Crest/Oral-B. During The 2006-2007 year the UNLV ASDA chapter won Honorable mention for their nationally recognize Crest/Oral-B ASDA Community Dentist Award Program. Please ask any ASDA officer if you would like to participate in future events.

Give Kids a Smile
“This year, GKAS was held on Saturday, February 3 at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine. Approximately 200 children were recommended to the program through youth advocacy groups including Huntridge Teen Clinic, Youth Advocate Programs, Inc., and Helping Kids. Local dentists donated time to pre-screen 40 of these children so that they could receive care first thing in the morning on GKAS day, while the others were screened and cared for throughout the day. The 2007 GKAS program involved approximately 200 dental students, 45 dentists, 25 hygenists, 12 dental school faculty members and one Tooth Fairy (named Brushella).”
